Tucson OED used to have a film office that worked with the industry to recruit film production here. Revenge of the Nerds was filmed at U of A. I actually participated on the set of Tombstone, which was based in Tucson (they stayed at the Holidome) and filmed about 1/2 hour east. I got to meet Goldie Hawn, Bill Paxton, Val Kilmer, Billy Zane, and Dana Delaney. Jericho Fever was filmed right in Tucson, with yours truly, Guy Atchley, and a few other locals playing in small parts. Tucson had quite a good film business going.

Now of course, we have TREO.

    Enough said.

There is a lot of filmmaking going on in Tucson and southern Arizona, even more than in the glory days. It is just low budget films now, but that is slowly changing. And, the Tucson Film Office does a great job of pursuing major projects from the outside. Transformers 2 and Away We Go are two recent examples. This latest film is not “the first,” it is one of many. Stay tuned, the Tucson film industry IS strong and growing.

To say that the Tucson Film Office does a great job must be a straight line out of a dark comedy.

The problem is that knowledgeable film industry production professionals are not laughing. They are not even working in Arizona. Nor do they intend to until cHuckleberry and the MTCVB are removed from any level of decision-making regarding the movie industry in Tucson/Pima County.

The Tucson MTCVB and cHuckleberry are cause for any film producer to run as fast as they can away from Tucson and Pima County. Just the mere mention of Pima County and the person who fronts for the Film Office are reason enough for legitimate film producers to pass through Arizona on their way to New Mexico.

Kudos to the Gammons and Cochise County for attempting to make Arizona viable once again as an inviting venue to produce movies.
