Was the City of Tucson’s goal of canceling 4th of July truly budget issues?  Was it a dramatic ploy to show us citizens just how bad the budget really is?

Does it make sense to cut a widely attended 4th of July event that cost our local government just $34,000 and continue funding other community events to the tune of $300,000?

One more example  of knee jerk reactions, short sighted planning and total lack of vision.

Have you had enough yet Tucson voter?

OK let me get this straight..

They create the crisis by cancelling the fireworks while maintaining funding for other “pet” projects which BTW does not include former pets that end up at the Humane Society (Nina’s latest move)Then they come in a say they saved the fireworks by going to private sector for donations?

    Hammer, Screwdriver, Wrench, Saw, Pliers-
Question- What do these have in common with Nina Trasoff? They are all tools!

The fireworks cancellation was bogus. Just hours before all these donations came in I suggested that special city events be paid for by the private sector. This e-mail went out to Mayor & council before this money was raised. Yes they made the calls and got the money, but they also took the credit for coming up with the idea of going to the private sector. If you look on your Tucson water bill you will find a box to fill in an amount to go to an open space fund. This is bogus too as the county has bond money to buy open space. The city pushes for more In Fill. Anyway my suggestion was to replace the open space fund with a “Special City Events” fund such as for fireworks, bicycle events, etc. I’ve even discussed this idea with a City Council aid. Let’s see were this goes.
