Fast forward to 2.22 in the video for the best question of the year:

Ann Brown -”It was such a close vote, 4-3, what does that say about this council’s ability to come together, to draw concensus.”

Councilwoman Uhlich – “This council has voted unanimously over 90% of the time.”

Ann, the problem with the budget, Rio Nogo,  the inability to raise or cut anything, funding of pet projects and the general complete lack of leadership  is the fact that there is no dissention. No one steps out of line. When one member does deviate they beat them back into submission.

Ann the questions should have been “This council has been known to vote unanimously on just about everything.  This dissention is a major departure. Does this signify  a change in direction? Are we going to see more of this going forward?”

Even Kimble hit them with the Mike Hein is a scapegoat in his editorial. Yours didn’t even address the lunacy just went to the, “what now” question.

Ann Brown proudly tells people that she is a friend of Mike Hein’s, so what do you expect?

The Fourth Estate is not supposed to be “friends” with public officials that it is supposed to cover objectively.

“Consensus” and “coming together” can be SO overrated. Sometimes the best decisions are the ones that get made by the slimmest of margins. Those are usually the decisions that have been long-postponed and long-overdue.

The Council can have 7-0 votes on resolutions honoring Boy Scouts.

With a 4-3 vote, council members are forced to make a hard decision and not hide behind the “consensus”. It’s good for our body politic.

The question is how could such an important decision take only 20 minutes of the Council’s time? The 4 to 3 vote was a joke. Trasoff new that the votes were there to axe Hein so she voted in what she thought was best for her politically. The outcome was what she wanted but now she can have deniability. She took lessons from Gabby Gifford’s in how to vote when your vote is not needed to get the end result you desire and still look good to your constituents.

Ann Brown is, and has been, way over head as “editorial page editor” at the Star.
