I just got word that Steve Emerine has passed after a medical procedure. Steve was a voice in Tucson that will be difficult if not impossible to duplicate. Steve brought so many perspectives to an issue. He was a newspaper man, elected county assessor, political consultant and radio/TV personality.
I met Steve a few years ago. He was one of the first few calls I made when I was contemplating a run for office. He was candid and open and gave me some great advice.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading his weekly column in Inside Tucson Business and often referenced his posts HERE, HERE and HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE.
The last correspondence I had with Steve was an email, which I was telling him about Facebook as a way for him to promote his column. Here is Steve’s reply;
Sorry, Joe, but my antiquated computer can't access Facebook, U-Tube, etc. -- steve

Steve was always a class guy. He was a traditional Democrat who rose above the petty party narrow-mindedness to bring light to the issues that were relevant to the small business owner and the average Tucson family.
He was the perfect reasoned counterpart to the Kool-Aid drinkers at the Star and Citizen and even his own paper the Inside Tucson Business. He spoke for the little guy when the Chuckleberrys, Bronsons, Trasoffs, Glassmans and others asked for too much fromt the taxpayers while delivering nothing. His voice will be sorely missed.
Steve, rest in peace. Our prayers are with your family.
It is a sad day. Thank you, Steve, for your many years of service to Tucson.
We need Steve Emerine’s voice of reason now more than ever.
Who will pick up the mantle?
Steve rose above political partisanship and called it as he saw it. He was a voice that will be hard to duplicate. He could call the elected officials to task in a polite professional manner. It wasn’t personal it was about making our community better.
