This is the first in a series of posts that we will be doing from time to time called – SERVE or BE SERVED.  We will be putting forth a member of our business, political or associations and solicit your feed back via comments is they are people of service to their community or if they are in their position of power to be served.

Those that are BEING SERVED conduct their life in a fashion that revolves around self preservation. They are intoxicated with the power of their position.  Those that are here to SERVE exhibit the characteristics described in Greenleaf’s Servant Leadership. Described below;

The difference manifests itself in the care taken by the servant-first to make sure that other people’s highest priority needs are being served. The best test, and difficult to administer, is: Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And, what is the effect on the least privileged in society? Will they benefit or at least not be further deprived?

The question for our readers is to determine if these leaders careers are primarily about keeping the status quo or doing the work of the community?

Let’s kick this off with Mayor Walkup – leave a comment;

SERVED

or

BE SERVED

Don’t be afraid to give some examples!

    Which Walkup are you talking about? The one we elected or the one we have now? You can guess my answer.

    RHINO – way too rah rah. Where’s the leadership, where’s the vision. Either he’s been beaten down by the Dem’s or he’s checked out or both.

    Walkup is a “Be Served” guy.

    He promised not to run again and he did. Why ? well follow the money. His wife continues to get placed in coveted paying positions in non profit organizations to raise money and she never performs. Food Bank, Tucson Children’s Museum, Tucson Girls Chorus to name a few. The Walkups like saying she is the first lady of Tucson, but me thinks if that is the case, she should use her position in the community to help struggling non profits not make money off of them. In some cases they are non profits that get funding from the City of Tucson.

    Then one must mention the Greehills-their “adopted” family. Andrew is the Mayor’s brains and he and Beth will do everything they can to position them well for the future including staying on another term so Andrew can run the show.

    Last but not least are the attempts Walkup has made to get appointed to higher offices including conversations with now former Gov J No asking to have her appoint him for McCain’s seat if he won the election.

    IMHO he is always trying to feather his nest for his wife and the Greenhills.
